Arenal Volcano National Park

 

 

At this hike along the trails of Arenal National Park we will enter into the tropical forest and areas which were once devastated by the fury of the volcano. During the hike, it is possible to see a great variety of flora and fauna characteristic of the area while you walk through the lava slides of 1992. 

While in the park it is possible to listen to the constant activity of the volcano with its lava flows and sporadic eruptions, and on clear days you will have the magnificent view of the impressive Arenal Volcano, the Arenal Lagoon and the Chato Hill. By night time, the lava flows stain the volcano’s skirts of red.

Thinking of the people who come to La Fortuna for a limited time, or who simple want to take good advantage of there time in the area, we have designed this alternative to show you the main attractive places around the volcano.

There is no doubt that our forests is one of them, therefore we will first visit “Arenal Hanging Bridges” to walk through a trail crossing the forest and bridges that allow you to see plants and trees from high above, as well as animals. If you prefer, you can change this activity for “Ecocentro Danaus”; a reserve of forest naturally regenerated and with a conservation program.

Blue River

 

This is one of the most amazing places of Costa Rica, without a doubt. Magnificent turquoise blue waters together with all the nature that surrounds it make of Rio Celeste a place to admire.

Located at the skirts of the Tenorio Volcano, this river, unique in the country, astounds its visitors with its beauty. A circuit trail of 7 kilometers will take us along the forest, going through places of interest as are the “Teñideros” or dyers, which is the places where the river acquires this different color because of a chemical reaction.

Besides that , we will visit “Las Ollas” which are fumaroles filled with mud and we will also go to a hot water spring.

Arenal Hanging Bridges


 

Hanging bridges Forest reserve comprises 243 hectares of protected forest. It is ideal for hikers who would like to admire the characteristics of the tropical rain forest.

On a trail of 3.1 kilometers you will go through very impressive bridges, some of them suspended over the forest. The bridges have different lengths and heights. They were made with the intention of assessing the flora and fauna from a different perspective since you go through different levels of the forest.

From these bridges you will have great views of the Canopy of the forest and it will be possible to locate animals and birds along the path.

Certified guides with ample knowledge on the subject and with specialized equipment for observation will guide you through trails near the volcano to identify toucans, parrots, oropendolas, tanagers, to mention only a few.
