Bird Watching Tour on the Peninsula Trail

Out tour will begin at 6 am from the trail entrance, located within the Arenal Volcano National Park, with the great advantage of being a less travelled trail, making it ideal for bird watching. The trail is a combination of Tropical Rainforest in regeneration and open pastures, located near the Arenal Volcano.
We will walk along the trails observing a variety of birds during 2 hours, where it is common to spot: Olive Sparrow (Arremonops rufivirgatus), Variable Seedeater (Sporophila aurita), Olive Tanager (Chlorothraupis carmioli), Buff-romped Warbler (Phaeothlypis fulvicauda), and between September and May you can frequently see migratory species like: Chestnut-sided Warbler (Dendroica pensylvanica), Spotted-breasted Oriole (Icterus dominicensis), Broad-winged Hawk (Buteo platypterus), and Summer Tanager (Piranga rubra).

El Silencio Biological Reserve Bird Watching Tour

This tour begins with hotel pick ups at 5:15 am, in order to arrive at the Reserve at 5:30 am and begin the tour in an open area of grasslands and regenerated forest, before entering one of the rainforest trails renowned as one of the most biologically diverse areas on the planet. Though it comprises 3% of the land mass of the planet, it is home of 50% of the species found throughout the world, making it a great place for bird watching.

The circular trail combines tree plantations in a regenerated forest where there are large pastures and small creeks which allows us to observe typical birds found in open areas as well as those belonging to aquatic habitats.

Half Day Bird Watching Tour In Caño Negro

Departing la Fortuna at 5:00am, we will begin our 100 km journey towards Los Chiles, just a 10 minute boat ride from the Costa Rica /Nicaragua border. Here we will board a motorized boat, with an experienced local pilot to begin bird watching.
We will navigate along Río Frío, the river that goes through the Caño Negro wildlife refuge. The region of Caño Negro is an excellent place to observe aquatic birds as well as birds that inhabit the tropical rainforest and the tropical dry forests, due to its privileged location. |

We depart from the hotel at 5:15 am to arrive that Arenal Oasis trail by 5:30 am, the perfect time for observing birds. Arenal Oasis is a small wildlife refuge with a rainforest trail which combines open and reforested areas. In addition to bird watching, Arenal Oasis offers a butterfly farm and terrariums with amphibian and reptile species.
Among the most frequently observed are: Pasarini’s Tanager (Ramphocelus passerinii), Buff –throated Saltador (Saltator maximu), Bananaquit (Coereba flaveola), Wood Thrush (hylocichla mustelina), Common Tody- flycatcher (Todirostrum cinereum). |

Ecocentro Danaus Bird Watching Tour

We depart from the hotel towards Ecocentro Danaus at 5:15 am. In just 10 minutes we will arrive at this interesting sanct5uary of just 3 hectares, which combines tropical gardens with a recovering forest and a man-made lake where it is possible to observe a large colony of nocturnal heron known as Chocuaco (Cochlearius cochlearius), found here year-round and known as the permanent home of this species throughout Costa Rica. Other species of fauna are easily spotted as well, such as caiman, agouti, and sloths. There is also a beautiful butterfly garden on the property. |
