La Fortuna Ecological Park Bird Watching Tour

We will leave the hotel at 5:15 am and arrive at the trail around 5:30 am. The circular trail combines tree plantations in a regenerated forest where there are large pastures and small creeks which allows us to observe typical birds found in open areas as well as those belonging to aquatic habitats.

Among the most popular species sighted are: the Great Kiskadee (pitangus sulphuratus), Yellow Tyranulet (Capsiempis flaveola), Montezuma Orependola (psarocolius montezuma), Wing-barred Seedeater (sporophila americana), Tropical Kingbird (tyrannus melancholicus), Red-billed Pigeon (patagioenas flavirostris), and Grove-billed Ani (crotophaga sulsirostris).
You can also observe less common residents of this area including: Slaty Spinetail (Synallaxis brachyura), which elaborates a platform of twigs in order to make an impressive nest, Laughing Falcon (herpetotheres cachinnans) – a large falcon which testifies to a healthy environment, since its specialized diet includes snakes, which  feed on frogs, rodents, lizards, birds, and other snakes; therefore if there is a falcon around you are in a healthy environment, Black-cheeked Woodpecker (melanerpes pucherani), and Violaceous Trogon (trogon violaceus).

Among the aquatic habitats with luck you will observe: Uniform Crake (Amaurolimnas concolor) and White-throated Crake (laterallus albigularis).
