Just an hour and a half from La Fortuna, through the beautiful plains of San Carlos, we will come upon this marvelous place known as the National Park of Water, is surrounded by cloud forests at more than 2200 meters above sea level where the majority of the main rivers of the Northern Region begin. Our naturalist guides, personalized service, and the unique scenery of this area make a perfect combination.
Juan Castro Blanco National Park is an excellent place for bird watching; especially for spotting the famous Resplendent Quetzal, (Pharomachrus Mocinno)distinguished for its majestically colored feathers.
Many of the prominent rivers of the San Carlos Valley and the Atlantic region originate in the aquifers of this National Park. The total area of the park is 14,250 hectares (approximately 35,200 acres) and was created by decree in 1992, the 60% of the total area of the park is covered by primary forests and the rest consists of patches of secondary forest. The hike takes about 4 hours along the 5km (3.10miles) trail, where we will have the opportunity to learn about the cloud forest, and visit the “Pozo Verde”Lagoon found in an ancient volcanic crater which has several important differences from the lakes of other regions. We end the tour with a delicious lunch, followed by the ride back to your hotel.
